What is SEO ? and Why is SEO important for Digital Marketing?

In this section we got to know What is SEO ? and Why is SEO important in Digital Marketing ? although both are very much important question for beginners that's why we'll know all about it in this article and also in upcoming articles but before that let's recall what we've learnt in the previous sections of the course, we have learned What is Marketing? What is Digital Or Internet Marketing? What are the topics you must know while you go for Digital/Internet Marketing? How to create a Blog and How to make a Website ?

Now in this section of the course, we will know everything about Search Engine's Optimization that What is S.E.O ? Types of SEO?  Why is it important for a Website and Blog? Benefits of SEO and so on. So let's start.

What is SEO ?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.  It is a practice of optimizing a website, web page or web content to get ranked at the top position on search engine result pages over a specific keyword with the purpose of improving and increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to a website through the organic search engine results.

It is very important for a Website or a Blog  because -

1.  It helps a Website or Webpage get one of the top ranks on SERP (Search Engine Result Page) of Search Engines in the organic result section without paying any cost to Search Engines. 

Explanation: If our website appears on  the top of SERP over a specific keyword then it increases the possibilities of getting more targeted audiences and more sales of our products & services. According to a survey , more than 70% of users like to click on one of the top five results that appear on SERP.  Here the rule of 'First Come First Serve' applies.

2. It helps Search Engines better to understand your website or Web Pages.

Explanation: Optimizing your website through tactics of Search Engine Optimization will help provide better information to Search Engine's Crawlers so that your content can be indexed properly and displayed accordingly within search results.

3. It builds your Brand's credibility and increases the trust of users  to your Brand/Website. 

Explanation: Usually users believe more on the results which appear on the first page of SERPs than other pages. If your brand, website, content or web pages appear within the top list of SERPs then it can be more trustworthy for users.

4. It also improves users' experience.

Explanation: To make your website visible on the first page of SERPs, you have to perform lots of improvement within your content and web pages under SEO techniques. It means every time when you improve your content or Webpages, you improve users' experience.

5. A continuous practice of proper Search Engine Optimization on your website keeps you ahead from your competitors  or sets you in an equivalent position with them.

Explanation: Always remember that not only you but also your competitors  will try  to view his website on the top of the first page of SERP through the Techniques of SEO. So you'll have to go on with your practice of optimizing your website pages continuously. It will never let you go down in Search Results.

Types of SEO

There are three types of SEO-

1. On Page SEO -  On Page SEO which is also known as On Site SEO is the practice of optimization of internal factors of individual webpages in order to get higher rank within organic search engine results and target audience from Search Engines. It includes many factors like optimization of Meta Tags ( Title Tag, Meta description), Headings, Content, Images, Alt Attribution, Permalink, Favicon, Canonical Tag, Internal Links, Keyword Research & its Placement in content and many other On Site factors. 

On Page SEO techniques points the search engine crawlers what a website is about.

2. Off Page SEO -  Off Page SEO which is also known as Off Site SEO is the practice   of improving Rank or Position of  Webpages within organic search engine results from outside of the website . It helps to increase website's popularity, authority, relevance and trustworthyness. It includes activities such as getting Backlinks from a reputed sites, Guest Blogging, Profile Creation, PPT submission, Social Media Marketing (SMM), Social Media Optimization (SMO), Influencer Marketing and many more.

Off Page SEO points the search engine crawlers how much a website is valuable and important.

3. Technical SEO-  Technical SEO is the process of optimizing a website in such manners that a website can  meet the technical requirements of the modern search engine to get ranked higher within the  SERPs. It includes activities like specification of preferred domain, optimization of robot.txt & XML sitemaps, URL structure, Site structure and its Navigation, 404 Page & 301 redirect, Canonical URLs, Breadcrumbs menu, Structured data markup, Website speed, Mobile friendliness, Accelerated mobile pages ( AMP), Enabling multilingual Websites, and Registering Websites with webmaster tools etc.
